Panama and Jamaica Lead Western Union Digital Rollout in the Latin
America and Caribbean Region
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., PANAMA CITY & KINGSTON, Jamaica--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Western
Union Company (NYSE: WU), a leader in cross-border, cross-currency
money movement, today extended its global digital footprint to Latin
America and the Caribbean, activating the Western Union®
mobile app (for iOS
and Android)
in Panama and Westernunion.com/jm
in Jamaica, enabling customers to send money to more than 200 countries
and territories, 24/7.
Panama and Jamaica are the first countries to lead Western Union’s
digital rollout across the Latin America and Caribbean region. Western
Union is also accelerating its digital presence across Asia Pacific and
the Middle East, in line with the company’s strong digital presence in
North America, Europe, and Oceania. Western Union’s digital offerings
complement the company’s retail footprint of more than half-a-million
Agent locations across the globe.
“Western Union’s vision is to connect our online presence with our
offline network to create an omnichannel offering that connects nearly
every country in the world and is uniquely able to serve a large global
customer base,” said Odilon Almeida, President, Western Union Global
Money Transfer.
“It’s already an achievement to allow customers in more than 200
countries and territories to send money from a brick-and-mortar location
to nearly every country across the world. Our aim is to offer the same
convenience across the world with just a few clicks, anytime, anywhere.
This is Western Union – continuously innovating global cross-border
money movement and delivering greater value for our customers,” said
Khalid Fellahi, Western Union’s Global Head of Digital.
In Panama, Western Union customers can complete their transaction within
the Western Union mobile app using a debit or credit card, or they can
also initiate the transaction in the mobile app, and then pay in cash at
an Agent location.
In Jamaica, Westernunion.com/jm
has been launched in alliance with GraceKennedy Money Services.
Customers can complete their transaction online using a debit or credit
card. In addition, customers can use the Western Union mobile app (for iOS
and Android)
in Jamaica to initiate a transaction, and then pay in cash at an Agent
location.
Western Union’s mobile app serves as the onramp to an omnichannel
platform that enables people to send and receive money across a full
spectrum of uses and needs – from digital natives who are never without
their smartphones, as well as the four billion people who aren’t online
yet, according to the World
Bank’s most recent data. The omnichannel platform connects the
digital and physical worlds of money across more than 200 countries and
territories, billions of consumer bank accounts, 130 currencies, 17
mobile wallets, and more than half a million Agent locations.
