greement Brings the World Closer to Consumers across 1,055 Murphy USA and Murphy Express Locations in 21 States
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Apr 29, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Western Union Company (NYSE:WU), a global leader in the money transfer segment of global payments, and Murphy Oil USA, Inc., a subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR), announced today an agreement to offer the Western Union(R) GoCashSM service, a new U.S. in-lane money transfer service from Western Union, and selectively offer Money Transfer by Phone, across 1,055 Murphy USA(R) gas stations and Murphy Express(R) convenience stores in 21 states.
The agreement builds upon Western Union's go-to-market strategy in the United States, and complements Western Union's consumer experience by giving consumers the convenience of being able to send a domestic or global money transfer while shopping at Murphy USA and Murphy Express convenience store locations. Consumers also will have the ability to purchase money order services at select Murphy locations.
"Today's announcement is one example of how two major retail brands in the U.S. can leverage their presence and strengths to work successfully together," said Carter Hunt, Senior Vice President Global Key Accounts, Western Union.
"Western Union sees the GoCash service as an opportunity to strengthen both its relationship and value proposition with consumers seeking convenient options to manage their time, finances and money transfer needs."
"Murphy shoppers will have greater choices when sending a money transfer, from select locations in the U.S., through Western Union's global Agent network," concluded Hunt.
With the GoCash service, consumers will have the option to select any of three amounts $50; $100; and $200. GoCash can be purchased for both domestic and international money transfers. Once purchased, the sender will need to complete the transaction over the phone through a Western Union customer service representative and provide the money-transfer information to the receiver.
Alex Alexandrou, Senior Manager, Retail Programs, said "Customers turn to Murphy USA and Murphy Express for Convenience, Value, and Quality. We are constantly looking for ways to provide new quality products and services to our customers while optimizing speed of transaction and customer service."
"Through our relationship with Western Union, customers will now have access to a leading and reputable global money transfer service provider to fulfill their money transfer, money order and bill payment needs."
Western Union announced last December an agreement to offer the Western Union(R) GoCashSM service through InComm, the industry-leading marketer, distributor and technology innovator of stored-value gift and prepaid cards.
