Establishes No-Fee Service to Process Public Donations

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, May 19, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Western Union Foundation announced today an Agent Giving Circle Program donation of US$90,000 to the UN World Food Programme to help alleviate the impact of food shortages and high costs of groceries here.

"We are extremely pleased by the initiative of our two Agents, Acra Financial Services and SogeXpress Haiti, to make this generous donation to the people of Haiti," said Luella D'Angelo, Foundation president. "Through our Foundation's Agent Giving Circle Program, we were able to match their joint US$45,000 donation dollar-for-dollar."

The World Food Programme is currently facing a funding shortfall of nearly $60 million for programs that provide food assistance to some 1.4 million people in Haiti. This contribution allows the organization to help avert imminent pipeline breaks and expand programs in the most vulnerable areas in the Northwest and the Southeast departments in the country.

"As Western Union Agents in Haiti, we have the opportunity to help our people during these difficult times in our country," said Marc-Antoine Acra of Acra Financial Services. "We are in a privileged position to count on the support of The Western Foundation to make our joint donation an even more significant contribution."

This grant is part of The Western Union Foundation's "Our World, Our Family," a five-year initiative to empower migrant families through education and global economic opportunity programs that help them stay connected, overcome barriers, and realize their dreams.

"Western Union and SogeXpress have always been there for the people of Haiti and this is just one more example of our strong partnership and commitment to social responsibility in our country," said Franck Lanoix of SogeXpress.
