Western Union Names Luella Chavez D’Angelo Chief Communications Officer

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – December 13, 2012 – The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), a
global leader in financial services, announced today it has promoted Luella Chavez D’Angelo to
chief communications officer.
Chavez D’Angelo will report directly to Hikmet Ersek, President and CEO, and will lead all
global corporate communication strategies for Western Union’s multi-channels and multi-
products, in addition to Corporate Social Responsibility and the Western Union Foundation
social initiatives.
“Luella has been a driving force in transforming the Western Union brand among consumers,
NGO’s, elected officials and other key audiences,” said Ersek. “Since joining the company, she
has built a best-in-class operation from the ground-up, establishing strong relationships around
the world. Her extensive management experience and knowledge of the business makes her the
right leader for this combined role.”
Chavez D’Angelo has a multi-faceted background in corporate communications, marketing,
public affairs and philanthropy. Most recently, she served as senior vice president, Western
Union Social Ventures and president of the Western Union Foundation.
Chavez D’Angelo serves on a number of national and regional boards and holds a bachelor’s
degree in Marketing Management and a master’s in Business Administration, with an emphasis
on Finance, from the University of New Mexico. She is married, has three children and resides in
Denver, Colorado.
