Christina A. Gold President, Chief Executive Officer and Director As the President and Chief Executive Officer for The Western Union Company, Gold is responsible for the financial and overall operational performance of the $4 billion company - a worldwide leader in money transfer, bill payment and prepaid services. Based at Western Union's global headquarters in Englewood, Colo., Gold has executive management oversight of a network of approximately 300,000 Agent locations in more than 200 countries and territories. In addition, she oversees an employee base of nearly 5,000 people located in 44 countries. Prior to joining Western Union in May 2002, Gold was President and Chief Executive Officer of telecommunications and e-commerce services provider Excel Communications. She also had a long and distinguished career with Avon where she served as President, Avon North America, and was credited with a significant turnaround of the cosmetic brand's U.S. business. BusinessWeek named her one of the top 25 U.S. managers in 1996, and she was recognized in 2003 and 2006 by Fortune magazine as one of Americas' 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. Gold serves on the board of directors of ITT industries and New York Life, and is a member of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy. A native Canadian, Gold is a graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa. She received the Award of Distinction - Faculty of Commerce & Administration from Concordia University in Montreal. She also received the "Batisseur," an honorary degree from the Professional Business School of Montreal, in recognition of her distinguished service to the business community. Liz Alicea-Velez Executive Vice President, Latin America/Caribbean As Executive Vice President of Western Union's Latin America/Mexico/Caribbean region, Liz Alicea-Velez has executive management oversight for all Western Union sales, service, marketing, systems/operations, financial and support functions throughout Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean - the largest remittance receiving region in the world. In addition, as President of both Orlandi Valuta and Vigo, Alicea-Velez is responsible for driving the global strategy of Western Union's sister brands.Alicea-Velez joined Western Union in 1992. In her 15 years with the company, she has held a number of increasingly senior-level positions, most recently serving Senior Vice President of the Latin America/Caribbean region. Prior to joining Western Union, Alicea-Velez held positions in both the software and Spanish language television industries. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Alicea-Velez holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Adelphi University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard School of Business. David Barnes Executive Vice President US, Canada and Strategic Development As Executive Vice President, David Barnes oversees Western Union operations in the United States and Canada. Based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union's global headquarters, Barnes also has responsibility for the company's global strategy development and Mergers and Acquisitions activity. Prior to joining Western Union in 2006, Barnes was Chief Financial Officer for RadioShack Corporation, where he played a critical role in developing the company's turnaround business plan. Barnes previously served as Chief Financial Officer for Coors U.S. At Coors, he oversaw the financing of the company's financing of its $1.7 billion acquisition of Carling. Barnes also served as CFO of YUM's Greater China region, where he oversaw the growth of the KFC and Pizza Hut businesses in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Barnes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Applied Mathematics from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration, Finance and Marketing, from the University of Chicago. Guy A. Battista Executive Vice President and President of Western Union Financial Services, Inc. Guy A. Battista is Executive Vice President and President of Western Union Financial Services, Inc. Prior to the spin-off, he was an Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of First Data from March 2001 to 2006. Mr. Battista joined First Data in 1990.Royal Cole Executive Vice President - Payment Services As Executive Vice President of The Western Union Company's Payment Services division, Royal Cole has overall profit and loss responsibility for the company's Consumer and Commercial Bill Payment services, Retail Money Orders and Prepaid Services. In addition, Cole oversees Western Union's Agent Network Management group (ANM), which directly manages Western Union's extensive Agent network throughout the United States. Cole is based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union's global headquarters.
Prior to his current appointment, Cole headed the company's North American Distribution and Agent Network Management organization. This role included oversight of Agent locations and alternative channels responsible for the sales and distribution of the company's portfolio of Retail Consumer and Commercial Money Transfer products and Retail Money Orders. Since joining Western Union in 1991, he has held positions of at the regional management level in the U. S. and was Senior Vice President of ValueLink, a leading provider of Stored Value solutions to retailers. Cole joined Western Union after having held progressively more responsible sales and sales management positions with the Pepsi Cola Company. Cole has a Bachelor of Science degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hikmet Ersek Executive Vice President & Managing Director Western Union Financial Services Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia Hikmet Ersek, Executive Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, is responsible for all areas of Western Union's business, including sales, marketing and finance in the region and oversees the management of 120 countries with more than 135,000 agent locations; he is based in Vienna, Austria. Hikmet joined Western Union in September 1999 as Regional Vice President for Southern Europe, later also taking on the Central and Eastern Europe region. In 2003 he was appointed Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia, recently moving into the Executive Vice President position. He reports directly to Christina Gold, President and CEO of Western Union.Robin Heller Executive Vice President, Operations and IT Robin Heller is Executive Vice President, Operations and IT. Prior to the spin-off, she was Senior Vice President, Global Operations for First Data from November 2004 until 2006. From July 2003 to November 2004, Ms. Heller served in a similar capacity with Western Union. Prior to that time, she was Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Operations for Western Union Commercial Services from July 2002 until June 2003 and Senior Vice President, Operations and Client Management for IPS, a First Data subsidiary, from July 2000 until June 2002. Ms. Heller joined First Data in 1988.Ian Marsh Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific Region Ian Marsh is Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific Region. Mr. Marsh has executive committee responsibilities as well as managing the Asia Pacific business for Western Union. Prior to the spin off, Mr. Marsh served in a similar capacity in Western Union. Mr. Marsh has 33 years of financial services experience, including a 30-year career with American Express in senior roles overseeing business partners, card, travel and insurance operations across the region, most recently serving as President and CEO of American Express Japan. Prior to joining Western Union in 2004, Marsh served as President for Reader's Digest Europe covering 18 European markets.Anne McCarthy Executive Vice President, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs As Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for Western Union, McCarthy is responsible for the company's overall communications strategy. She oversees global media relations, internal communications, reputation management, government relations, community relations and the Western Union Foundation. McCarthy is based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union's global headquarters. McCarthy joined Western Union in 2007 after working for four years as the Senior Vice President of Global Communications for SAP A.G. At SAP, McCarthy led the communications activities for SAP's Customer Solutions and Operations (CSO) division, including global, regional and local media relations; new media; customer communications; partner and channel communications; the competitive program office; and executive and employee communications. In addition, McCarthy has 25 years of corporate and agency communications experience and has worked in senior-level positions throughout the world at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Polaroid Corporation, IBM Corporation, Sara Lee Corporation and Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. McCarthy earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Michigan State University and has completed executive education programs at The Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania and at INSEAD at Fontainebleau. Scott T. Scheirman Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Scott Scheirman is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to the spin-off, Mr. Scheirman held a variety of positions with First Data, most recently serving as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Western Union from 1999 to 2006. Prior to joining First Data, Mr. Scheirman was with Ernst & Young. Mr. Scheirman serves as the Chairman of the Western Union Foundation.David Schlapbach General Counsel and Secretary David Schlapbach is General Counsel and Secretary. Prior to the spin-off Mr. Schlapbach held a variety of positions at First Data since joining it in 1996, including Deputy General Counsel - International, with responsibility for First Data's legal matters outside the United States. In this capacity, he worked in First Data's Paris office for four years, returning in 2004 to become General Counsel for Western Union. Prior to joining First Data, Mr. Schlapbach was an attorney at the law firm of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP in St. Louis, Missouri.Grover Wray Executive Vice President of Human Resources Grover Wray is Executive Vice President of Human Resources. He served in a similar capacity for Western Union since joining us in October 2005. Prior to joining Western Union, Mr. Wray held senior human resources positions for Janus Capital Group from 2004 to 2005, Heidrick & Struggles from 2003 to 2004 and Arthur Andersen LLP from 1988 to 2003.
